What is Google My Business?

Google My Business is free tool provided by Google to small business owners and non-profit organizations. Businesses listed on Google My Business show up on Google Search (otherwise known as the search engine results page or SERP) and Google Maps. When you verify and update your business information, you increase your chances of being found by prospective customers in the area. 

Google My Business allows you to: 

  • Manage how your business shows up in Google Search and Maps

  • Collect business reviews to drive word-of-mouth customers

  • Post and share photos and videos to help potential customers get to know your business

  • Interact with customers through features like messaging

Why does Google My Business matter?

Google My Business is built off the concept of micro-moments - a moment in time when a consumer needs to know, go, do, or buy. If you've ever attended one of my marketing events, you've heard me talk about micro-moments and the importance they carry in consumer psychology. 

In the grand scheme of things, using Google My Business enables you to meet leads and prospects on Google Search and Maps in their moments of need. They have to buy something; you show up in their results! It's really that simple. 

It's important to note that Google My Business is not a substitute for a website or social media. It is a critical aspect of your digital marketing and a complement to your other marketing channels. You'll still want to build a mobile-responsive website, manage social media channels, AND create a Google My Business profile.
